Model Behavior

Read the article: Former Victoria’s Secret Model Kylie Bisutti on Trading in Her Wings for Her Faith -Fox News

After pursuing her dream of modeling since the age of 14 and nearing the pinnacle of success and achieving her dream as a Victoria Secret model at 19, Kylie Bisutti gave it all up just two years later.  The things she wanted had changed.  “I truly, truly believe that my body should be for my husband, and him alone.” she said.  At 21, her Christina faith led her to make the decision to pursue more wholesome modeling opportunities and leave lingerie and bikinis behind.  She recounts the conversation when her 8 year old cousin told her that she would stop eating so that the could look like Kylie.  “I don’t want to be that kind of person – that makes little girls feel that way.”

Serve it Up!

  • Kylie’s husband was gratified with her decision to stop working for Victoria Secret, but she says that he let her come to that decision on her own – as her faith developed, and that he simply prayed that she would come to that conclusion.  Do you think that he should have done more, earlier?  Or, do you think he was right to let it be her own decision?
  • Kylie has decided to pursue more wholesome modeling. Do you think this is a good decision, or should she leave the modeling industry all together?  Why, or why not?  Where do you draw the line between what appropriate for a believer to participate or not?
  • At first Kyle didn’t let her faith derail her pursuit of modeling.  This can just as easily happen with us as we strive after our careers, families or education – a “spiritual life” and a “regular life”.  How can we ensure that our life’s pursuits are part of our desire to honor God, and not kept separate? What kinds of things do you think people commonly keep detached from their spiritual lives?
  • When the man we call the Rich Young Ruler, in Mark 19, asked Jesus what he should do to obtain eternal life, even after he kept the entire law, Jesus said: “If you wish to be complete, go and sell your possessions and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven; and come, follow Me.” Jesus knew how important this man’s wealth was to him and that he would not be able to keep it separate from his spiritual life.  What parts of you “regular life” do you find it hard to make part of your “spiritual life”?
