31 Days of Prayer for Your Spouse {Day 4 :: Faithfulness}
Faithfulness
“The Lord rewards everyone for their righteousness and faithfulness. The Lord delivered you into my hands today, but I would not lay a hand on the Lord’s anointed.”
1 Samuel 26:23
These words of the future King David can teach us a lot about faithfulness in our marriage. When we say our marriage vows, we are promising to be faithful to our spouse through many difficult circumstances, regardless of whether or not it feels good. David had chosen not to kill his adversary, King Saul, even though he had the perfect opportunity. He knew that the Lord had promised to bring him to power at the right time, and he chose to remain faithful to the Lord, even when waiting was more than challenging. He saw that until God said otherwise, King Saul was the Lord’s anointed. Faithfulness in marriage implies that we will often have to choose to love and show grace to our husband or wife, even when we don’t want to …ESPECIALLY when we don’t want to. And unlike David and Saul, you and your spouse aren’t adversaries! Let’s cling to the promise that the Lord’s blessing and reward will come when we are faithful to Him and the spouse that He has anointed for us. Dear Lord, Thank you for the spouse that you have chosen and anointed in my life. Thank you for the trials as well as the joys. I pray that today you will richly bless my spouse for the ways that they have waited for you. Help me to always look to your promises and to trust that your word is perfect and true. Amen.
