31 Days of Prayer for your Spouse {Day 26 :: Wisdom}

“But the wisdom that comes from heaven is first of all pure; then peace-loving, considerate, submissive, full of mercy and good fruit, impartial and sincere.”

James 3:17 NIV

  Did you enter into marriage thinking that a white dress, beautiful flowers, and a church full of well-wishers was a magic potion for happily ever after?  I’m sorry if you did.  I hope your disappointment hasn’t overwhelmed you.  I hope you find comfort in knowing you are in good company – among others who weren’t aware that the cries of “I don’t know what to do” would actually outnumber the confident assurances of “Everything is under control.”  Does anything besides marriage bombard us so consistently with challenges whose stakes are so high? For better or for worse seemed like such a sweet phrase when we uttered it, didn’t it?  Marriage was custom made to push us to our knees in dependence on a God who does have all the answers and so desires to surround us with the peace of His sovereignty and loving-kindness.  Prayer, time in His Word, the counsel of godly friends who speak His Truth – these are the endeavors of a marriage that actively seeks His wisdom and can weather well seasons of confusion and anxious unknowns.   Today we thank you, Lord, for your omnipotent wisdom so graciously shared in response to our heartfelt petitions.  Please let my marriage be one which never fails to seek Your wisdom, first and foremost, on which we promise to rest and rely.
