Someday

After every parenting event we put on, we get some great feedback from attendees. There are some that touch the heart so well, it would be a shame to keep them to ourselves and we just have to share them. We hope you are blessed by this account of some parents in Memphis being touched by God’s grace. My husband and I were really challenged and excited about parenting when we left the Raising Truly Great Kids conference. I think more than anything I realized how short our time is and how much there is to do in that short window of time. How I spend too much time doing things that truly are not important and fussing with my kids about things that don’t matter. Tim made a statement about one day walking in your child’s room and you will wish there was someone there to rub their back. I almost started crying because so many times my kids have asked me to rub their backs or sing to them and I have said, “Not tonight, I have too much to do.” SHAME on me. So I have been convicted and changed. I have made a new rule than as long as they ask I will lay with them and rub their backs and sing to them, it is soooo worth it. Last night I was doing this with our daughter and I really felt like the Lord brought this poem to my mind. I want to share it just as a small token of my gratitude.

Tonight I rub your back because someday comes too soon Tonight I sing you a song because someday won’t be long Night Night blankies, toys and pacifiers traded in for friends, dates and tires

Tonight I rub your back because someday you won’t ask me to Tonight I sing you a song because someday you’ll be too busy for me to Missing teeth, giggles and bedtime kisses traded in for that special girl or prince charming wishes

Tonight I rub your back because someday you’ll be grown Tonight I sing you a song because someday I hope you’ll have your own Birthday cakes, buzz cuts, and pigtails traded in for wedding cakes, tuxes, and veils

Tonight I rub your back because someday comes too soon Tonight I sing you a song because someday won’t be long

From Carrie Brady – a Mom in Memphis Thank you Carrie. When it comes to parenting, the days are long but the years are short.
