At The Top

I would prep all morning; motivated by this great little place that I’d found at the top of a mountain my kids just had to see! We would have a picnic there at the top, under this perfect little tree with a sitting rock and we would revel in the climb we just conquered. We would worship our Jesus up there together. We would drink and eat and be so full in every way possible. That is what is at the top. But how would my kids handle the climb?   Will they bicker with each other or encourage their siblings? Will they take on the challenges head on or will they whine? Will they only focus on the hardships or will they see all the beauties along the way? Will they keep on trucking one step at a time when we get to any steep inclines, will they just stop, or will they completely protest and head back down? Will they notice the strength they’re gaining or be disappointed with any scrapes or bruises they might incur? I know my kids pretty well, I could probably predict what it will take to get them up there, who will need a pat on the back, a band-aid, a pit-stop or two, a treat, etc. I am their mother.   But He is our Father. He knows our hearts. He is sovereign dear friends. We cannot surprise Him. And He will continue to woo us up that mountain, because He knows what we need to keep going. He’ll cheer us on, He’ll climb with us, He’ll mourn when we scrape ourselves, then He’ll pick us back up and say keep going, it’s worth it!   If you were confident what was at the top was made for you, prepared for you, by your Father; the inclines, the scrapes, the sacrifices, they’d mean something else right? Would you be grateful for the strength you are gaining? Would you still be angry at Him, or could you keep on trucking one step at a time because you know, this will be worth it, my Father is with me, and whatever He prepared for me at the top is what I’m doing this for, for time with Him in that place. And nothing will keep me from climbing this mountain because eternity with Him is at the top.

John 14 “Do not let your hearts be troubled. You believe in God[a]; believe also in me. My Father’s house has many rooms; if that were not so, would I have told you that I am going there to prepare a place for you? And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come back and take you to be with me that you also may be where I am. You know the way to the place where I am going.”
