At the Threshold of Tomorrow

You and I stand at the threshold of a New Year. With this in mind, I thought I’d share with you an epitaph from John Wayne’s tombstone. It says, Tomorrow is the most important thing in life. Comes into us at midnight very clean. It’s perfect when it arrives and it puts itself in our hands. It hopes we’ve learned something from yesterday. I suppose the same thing could be said about a New Year. At midnight December 31st we’re all going to be handed a clean and perfect new block of time. Although time isn’t “the most important thing in life,” what we do with it certainly ranks up there at the top of the list. That’s why, as you stand at the threshold of 2016, I hope you’re looking forward to what lies ahead. I sure am. If you and I are, it’s not because of anything we’re doing; it’s because of what Christ did. He wrote a big check for us, didn’t He? It cost Him real thorns and real nails. He gave us something we desperately needed but didn’t deserve. He gave us grace. That’s why, no matter how tough this year may have been or how many foolish turns we made along the way, we have a wonderful God giving us another chance to write another chapter in our life story for His glory. All of us at Family Matters see this New Year as a fresh opportunity to bring God’s love, mercy, and forgiveness to a lot of families … whether it’s  married couples who’ve lost a lot of that lovin’ feeling, or parent/child relationships in bad need of a make-over. We’ll work passionately to show families how to appropriate the grace of the cross for the demands of everyday life—to treat each other the way God treats them … graciously. And come midnight the 31st, let’s take that clean and perfect year God is handing us and do the thing that most glorifies Him—let’s LOVE the people that come with it … with enthusiasm, encouragement, and grace.
